I've been on a scarf kick lately. It started with these two birthday scarves, one for my neighbor and one for Greg's grandfather. The cool thing about the second photo is the spinning wheel in the background. That belonged Greg's aunt's great-grandmother, who brought it over from Norway.

what beautiful scarves. i like the delicate lace work of the purple one and how it ruffles on the ends. it looks like a fun scarf to make. i'm impressed by the cable work you did for the green one and the tassels are a nice touch. how long did it take to make the green one? i found cabling to be very tedious and sometimes difficult to knit.
Thanks sukogirl! The "flutter" scarf is a mimknits pattern. The straight portion is a 4 row repeat and very easy to memorize. I worked both of them sort of simultaneously and they probably took 3 weeks or so? I liked cables a lot more after I read about cabling without a cable needle on grumperina's knitblog. I just started a scarf with a brioche stitch reversible cable where the cable is 12 stitches wide and includes yarn-overs, so it's impossible to do without a separate needle, but for small cables like this it works really well!
these are both really gorgeous. i especially love the mauve (?) one, it looks very light and delicate, like sukogirl was saying, and the lettuce edging is cool too---i haven't really seen that before in knitting, only sewing (done using a serger). where did you get the pattern from? the idea of cables without using a cable needle sounds cool, i will have to look into it. i agree w/ sukogirl that cables can tedious/hard to knit---i like the u-shaped cable needles better than the ones that are flat across with a little v in the middle.
thanks cignoh! the flutter pattern is from http://mimknits.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66&products_id=201
she designed the shawl that i'd made for my mom as well. Yeah, i like the u-shaped ones better too.
