I wanted to make a wallet, but wasn't sure if I could do it. I found a very easy pattern on craftster.com with pictures on craftbits.com. I tried their pattern, but didn't like the way the seams looked, so I modified it a fair bit. Here is the result, my first wallet! It has several problems, but it's not bad. It took me three tries to get to this one!

wow! that's awesome! so many pockets, too. I really like your use of accent fabrics. And, well, robots rule.
how cute!! nicely done. i like how you alternating the fabric for the pockets and the button strap on the top. and yes, robots rule.
i like your wallet! i agree w/ all the previous posts. somehow, wallets, bags, etc. scare me. but i think i might like to design a modular bag system to accommodate all of my day to day/changing needs. but the idea of sewing zippers and using more sturdy materials scare me. how thick was the wallet material? just a standard cotton print or is it reinforced with something else?
I used a slight heavier fabric for the robot. It was the weight for pillows and home stuff. I used standard polyprop (lightweight poly/cotton blend) for the black lining. I wouldn't go too thick because I had to sew through four layers for the cover, lining and pockets.
I tried different fabric weights in my first attempt. When I was using a really thin fabric, I put lightweight fusible interfacing on the lightest piece. That's the stuff you iron on to make things slightly stiff. Again, super easy to use. It was in my apron directions and the lady at the fabric center explained it to me.
I'm scared of zippers too. It's a big limitation on my sewing right now!
