yet another hyperbolic crochet plane

This is my first circular crocheted hyperbolic plane, made from a skein of inexpensive purple acrylic yarn (256 yards, Red Heart Soft brand). The crocheting was very repetitive, but it was neat to see the ruffles start to emerge as the shape got larger and larger. I increased one stitch for every 4 stitches. As you would expect, it does not seem to be as tightly ruffled as cignoh's plane which increased one stitch every 3 stitches. This piece is about 12 inches across and can be arranged in a variety of different ways to resemble coral or lettuce. It also makes an interesting hat.

i love it! circular! what a great idea, that's something i will want to learn... 12 inches across sounds huge, how long did it take to do? i think that mine must've been at least 1/4 of the size (mine wasn't circular) and that already took a while to make... i agree that it makes a very nice/interesting hat for both of them too :)

gorgeous! yes, how long did it take u to make? making one out of self striping yarn sounds like a good idea. i thought about changing the yarn color of mine just so i can how the rows were curving. once the plane starts curving you kinda get lost on where the beginning is and where the end is. love the pics of your kids wearing it! too cute!
